What you need to know about a sexy couples boudoir shoot

Time for some honest and candid talk about an intimate couple photo shoot

We get asked a lot of questions about couple photoshoots and we know that a lot of questions get left unasked or only get raised during the actual photoshoot when it’s too late.

So we want to get real and answer all the questions you are reluctant to ask…

A couple to us is 2 consenting adults who have an intimate relationship and want to capture that relationship through photography.

So whether you are a straight couple or in a same sex relationship, young or old, it really doesn’t matter to us. Everyone is welcome, everyone deserves to feel beautiful, desired and empowered.

The studio and the photoshoot is a safe space and no one gets judged so whatever the nature of your relationship you are welcome to do a photoshoot and express yourself.

Is there an extra charge for a couple boudoir session vs a single person?

The session fee for a male/female couple session is the same as for a single female boudoir session. The only exception is for a female/female session. A extra session fee applies in this case to cover the second hair and makeup.

How long does a couple photoshoot take?

Hair and makeup takes about 1 hour and the actual photo session takes about 2 hours. But there is never a rush an if it takes a it longer that’s fine.

What can we do during the shoot?

If we had to describe the different types of couple sessions that we do we would categorise them as follows

  • Sexy Romantic couple shoot

  • Intimate & sensual photoshoot

  • Steamy & risqué couple session

  • Naughty & erotic photoshoot

Most sessions are a combination of all of the above. Rather than just put our couples into a series poses we aim to tell a story through the images. Therefore most photo shoots start out sweet and romantic, getting a bit more intimate and sensual as our couples gain in confidence and get progressively more steamy and risqué if the couple is into it.
Some couples choose to bring accessories such as handcuffs, restraints, floggers etc and progress to a more naughty type of shoot but we always make sure to keep it clean fun.
Basically there will be lots of hugging, kissing, playful groping, staring into each others eyes and nervous laughter :)

We direct couples to a degree to get some cool poses that are sexy and show a connection between our couples but we let our couples do their own thing as much as possible until we see that they have run out of things to do and then we suggest another pose.

What should we wear for the photoshoot?

Honestly? It’s totally up to you but we do have some recommendations.
We like to let the photoshoot evolve like a story, so we encourage you to start fully clothed and progressively shed the clothes. It’s a great way to get you more confident and have fun at the same time. Maybe you want to dress up in some formal gear or go with a more casual style e.g. jeans and button up shirt etc.

Getting undressed is half the fun, it makes for a great story and fun images.

For the ladies, we have already put together a separate blog post on how to prepare for a boudoir session.

For the guys, check that everything is clean and fits. If you are bringing button up shirts then bust out the iron and give them the once over. If you are bringing boxers or briefs try to get some new ones. Old underwear tends to stretch out and we want everything to be nice and tight, right? Bring a couple of different boxers or briefs to create some variety.
Apart form the clothes, make sure everything else is well groomed e.g. nails, haircut (but not too recent), facial hair etc. if you are using product in your hair bring some extra in case things get hectic and you mess up the hair!

Should she be topless?

Well that’s totally your call. Being topless, skin on skin can be very sensual but at the same time not everyone is comfortable showing off everything. We can get some great images which are only implied topless but are still very sexy.

Do we have to get naked?

You don’t have to get naked for the shoot, we can get some great sensual images while you wearing lingerie or boxers etc. But if you want to, you are welcome, you can both be naked or just one of you. It’s your call and something you should discuss with each other and agree on before the photoshoot. Even if one or both of you decide to be nude we will shoot it in such a way that the nudity is more implied than full frontal.

If you want full frontal nudity that’s ok but let us know because otherwise we tend to err on the side of modesty.

Can we bring some other sexy outfits?

Of course, do some role play and have some fun with it. Bring your maid outfit, or be a Playboy Bunny or polish that latex suit. It’s all good. We love creating variety and if it’s something that you are into then we would love to capture it for you.

Can we incorporate some bondage, BDSM and toys in the photoshoot?

Feeling adventurous? Sure lets spice things up.

Cuffs, restraints, collars, chockers, floggers and paddles are easy and fun to incorporate into the session. Honey Birdette has some nice looking bondage kits.

We don’t provide any toys etc but you are welcome to bring your own. We want to keep it fun and playful therefore we won’t shoot anything too extreme. We also don’t shoot Shibari as part of a regular session since we don’t have the rope skills and it’s just too time consuming.

As always, have a discussion with your partner before the photo shoot and work out where your comfort zones are. It’s important that everyone is on the same page. If you have any questions just send us an email before the session or send some reference images.

So what can’t we do during a couple shoot?

Everyone is different and what may seem kinky to one couple may be totally normal for another couple. We want to enable you to express your relationship. If you are not sure about anything ask us before the shoot and feel free to send us any reference images for clarification. We are open minded and non judgemental.

The most imporant thing is that everyone is on the same page; you as a couple need to agree and consent before the shoot what your comfort zones and boundaries are.

Will our images make it to your website or social media?

Again, this is totally up to you. We always respect our clients privacy and we will have a quick discussion on the day of the photoshoot. Some clients give us permission to use the images without any restrictions, some clients want to keep all the images private and some clients allow us to use images that are anonymous i.e. don’t show their faces.

Even if clients give us permission to use their images, if they change their mind we would remove any images that we have used.

But we need to get into shape first!

We could all get into better shape physically, but all that matters right now is that your relationship is in great shape and that you want to celebrate this time in your life with your partner. The one feedback we have received consistently from our clients is that a couples photoshoot has brought them closer together.

“I did not expect to enjoy the shoot as much as I did. It was good to get myself out of my comfort zone and enjoy this new experience. I also felt that it brought my partner and I closer together. It’s an empowering experience and an amazing confidence boost.” - Alexandra

And why not use the photoshoot as a motivation to get into the gym and into shape. It’s a win win!

Do you need a reason to book a sexy photoshoot that celebrates your relationship?

You don’t really need a reason, who doesn’t want some sexy photos of them and their partner, all cosy and cute. So maybe you just need an excuse… How about

  • A couple shoot makes a great Valentines day gift to each other

  • Celebrate a milestone in style, maybe a one year anniversary, a wedding anniversary, a birthday gift.

  • Maybe it’s time to celebrate a new beginning? Did you just get engaged? Do a sexy couple shoot for your pre-wedding shoot. Are you planning on starting a family, take advantage of this time that is just yours while it lasts!

  • Need a confidence booster? A couple’s boudoir photography session is the perfect reminder of how your partner sees you and how valuable that feeling is. And this goes both ways! Men struggle with body issues just as much as women—they’re just less likely to talk about it. A boudoir session can be an opportunity for both of you to feel more comfortable and at home in the skin you’re in and learn to love yourselves a little more.

  • Time to rekindle that relationship? Couple’s boudoir session can offer you an opportunity to reconnect and to rekindle the intimacy you may struggle to feel at times.
